Broken Spring Replacement

Help for the parts that lift and balance your garage door.

A small part with a big job

Garage door springs carry the weight of the door as it opens and closes. A broken or worn spring can leave the door difficult to move or unable to open.

NTX provides spring replacement and door balancing for residential and commercial garage doors. Tell us what you’re noticing so we can discuss the next step.

Service for the whole lifting system

The spring works with cables, hardware and the door itself. A repair starts with understanding how those parts are working together.

Tell us what happened

Let us know if the door stopped moving, seems unusually heavy or made a sudden noise.

Find the right fit

Replacement springs need to suit the door’s size, weight and track arrangement.

Check movement and balance

Balancing and checking the related hardware are part of restoring the door’s operation.

When a spring problem needs attention

A sudden bang, a visible gap in a torsion spring or a door that has become unusually heavy can indicate a spring problem. A door that opens only a little may also have a problem in its lifting system. An opener struggling to lift the door is not a reason to keep running it.

Keep the opening clear and stop using a door with a broken spring. Springs, cables and their attachments can be under significant tension; replacement and adjustment belong with a trained door systems technician.

Choosing a spring for the actual door

Spring selection depends on the weight and configuration of the door, rather than its width alone. Materials, insulation and changes to the door can affect that weight. Matching the spring and checking balance help the door and opener work together.

The inspection should also consider cables, drums or pulleys, attachments and the remaining lifting hardware. On a door with two springs, ask about the condition and service options for both springs.

Planning the replacement

When you contact NTX, describe the door size, the building and whether the door is open or closed. Share photos only from a safe position. Let us know if a vehicle is trapped inside.

Ask about the specified spring, related work, labor and warranty when reviewing the proposed repair. The right scope comes from the door’s condition; a universal spring price would miss those differences.

Questions about garage door springs

How do I know if a spring is broken?

A door that will not lift, feels unusually heavy or has a visible gap in its spring may need spring service. Describe what you’re seeing when you contact NTX.

Can I replace the spring myself?

Garage door springs are under tension. Leave spring replacement and adjustment to a garage door professional, and avoid forcing the door or opener.
